Urbain Jean Joseph Le Verrier
Urbain Jean Joseph Le Verrier est un mathématicien et un astronome.
Après des études au collège de Saint-Lô puis au collège royal de Caen, il y est admis à l'École polytechnique en 1831. En 1841 il obtient la chaire d'astronomie de cette école. Urbain Le Verrier devient célèbre lorsque la planète, dont il a calculé les caractéristiques comme cause hypothétique des anomalies des mouvements d'Uranus, est observée par Galle à l’observatoire de Berlin le soir du 23 septembre dans la zone indiquée par Le Verrier. On l'appellera Neptune.
