Albert Lebourg

Albert Lebourg est un impressionniste normand de l’Ecole de Rouen, mal connu. Il commença ses études artistiques à l’école municipale de dessin de Rouen sous la direction de l’architecte Droin, qui lui fit rencontrer le peintre paysagiste Victor Delamarre (1811-1868). Abandonnant alors l’architecture, il suivit à l’École Municipale de Peinture et de Dessin de Rouen les cours de Gustave Morin (1809–86).

Après ces études, il enseigne le dessin à Alger de 1872 à 1877 où il rencontre le coloriste lyonnais Jean Seignemartin (1848-1875). Sous son influence, Lebourg éclaircit sa palette et réalise une « série » de tableaux d'après le même sujet à la façon de Monet. Atteint de paralysie, Lebourg cesse de peindre en 1925.

Albert Lebourg was a Norman impressionist from the School of Rouen, not well known. He began his art studies at the local Art School in Rouen under the supervision of the architect Droin, who introduced him to the landscape painter Victor Delamarre (1811-1868). Abandoning architecture, he attended the courses of Gustave Morin (1809-1886) at the Municipal School of Painting and Drawing at Rouen.

After these studies, he taught drawing in Algiers from 1872 to 1877 where he met John Seignemartin (1848-1875), the colorist from Lyon. Under his influence Lebourg lightened his palette and produced a "series” of paintings based on the same subject in the manner of Monet. Affected by paralysisy, Lebourg stopped painting in 1925.
