André Maurois
André Maurois, de son nom d'origine Émile Salomon Wilhelm Herzog, est un romancier, conteur et essayiste français.

Issu d'une riche famille d'industriels juifs alsaciens, Maurois a pour professeur au lycée de Rouen le philosophe Alain, à qui il sera redevable de son orientation esthétique.

Interprète militaire et officier de liaison pendant la Première Guerre mondiale, il écrit en 1918 « Les Silences du colonel Bramble ». Les évènements de cette Guerre lui fournissent son pseudonyme "Maurois", nom d'un village du Nord de la France dans le Cambrésis.

Maurois is born into a wealthy family of industrialists Alsatian Jews. At the high school of Rouen, he has the philosopher Alain for teacher, to who he will be liable for his aesthetic orientation.

Military interpreter and liaison officer during the First World War, in 1918 he wrote ”Les Silences du Colonel Bramble”. The events of this war give him his nickname "Maurois", the name of a village in northern France near Cambrai.
