Départ de la Statue de la Liberté
La Liberté éclairant le monde, plus connue sous le nom de statue de la Liberté, est l'un des monuments les plus célèbres de la ville de New York. Elle est située sur l'île de la Liberté au sud de Manhattan, à l'embouchure de l'Hudson. Elle fut offerte par la France en 1886, pour célébrer le centenaire de la déclaration d'indépendance américaine et en signe d'amitié entre les deux nations.
De 1870 où Bartholdi sculpta une première ébauche à son arrivée à New York, il faudra 15 années de travaux et de recherche de fonds.
En mai 1885, sous forme de 350 pièces, la statue fut envoyée à Rouen par le train, puis elle descendit la Seine en bateau avant d'arriver au port du Havre. Elle entra dans le port de New York le 17 juin 1885, à bord d'une frégate française, l'Isère, et reçut un accueil triomphal de la part des New-Yorkais

Liberty Enlightening the World, better known as the Statue of Liberty, is one of the most famous monuments of the city of New York. It is located on Liberty Island south of Manhattan, at the mouth of the Hudson river. It was a gift from France in 1886, to celebrate the centenary of the American Declaration of Independence and as sign of friendship between the two nations.
