Dominique Gauchet
Il passe une partie de sa jeunesse à l’Ile aux Chiens (maintenant île aux Marins), petite île de l'archipel de Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon.
Il est nommé Vice-Amiral le 18 juin 1914. Il est directeur des travaux militaires au Ministère de la Marine de mai 1914 à septembre 1915. Puis il commande l'Escadre des Dardanelles. En mars 1916, il commande la 2ème Escadre. Le 15 décembre 1916 il succède à Dartige du Fournet, et commande en chef l'Armée navale.
En mai 1917, il met au point un système d'escorte de convois contrariant l'action des sous-marins. En juin 1917, il dirige l'occupation du Canal de Corinthe. En mars 1918, il est en Mer Égée avec une forte division de cuirassés pour éviter une sortie de la flotte russe.
Il quitte le service actif en août 1919 après avoir reçu la Grand Croix de la Légion d'Honneur et la Croix de guerre avec citation à l'Ordre de l'Armée navale et être nommé Officier d'académie.
