Longtemps niée par les historiens, cette découverte est maintenant confirmée par des fouilles qui ont permis de retrouver des traces de la présence des Vikings à L'Anse aux Meadows à Terre-Neuve, Canada.

Long denied by historians, this discovery has now been confirmed by excavations that have uncovered traces of the presence of the Vikings at "L'Anse aux Meadows" in Newfoundland, Canada.

Le Vinland est mentionné pour la première fois par le géographe et historien allemand Adam de Brême dans son livre « Descriptio insularum Aquilonis », rédigé vers 1075. La source principale d’informations sur les voyages des Vikings au Vinland provient de deux sagas islandaises, la Saga d'Erik le Rouge et la Saga des Groenlandais. Néanmoins de nos jours si son existence n’est plus contestée, sa localisation sur les côtes américaines fait toujours débat.

Vinland is mentioned for the first time by the German geographer and historian Adam of Bremen in his book “Descriptio insularum Aquilonia”, written around 1075. The main source of information about the Viking voyages to Vinland comes from two Icelandic sagas,” the Saga of Erik the Red” and “the Saga of the Greenlanders”. However today if its existence is no longer contested, its location on U.S. shores is still debate.
